Greetings,

When people see meteors, also incorrectly called shooting stars, they are actually seeing pieces of rock that fall or have been impulsed into a collision course with Earth.  These pieces of meteoroids mostly disintegrate with the air friction producing the shooting star effect and don't even reach the ground. When they are really big they may get through the atmosphere and hit the ground producing meteorites. Really giant ones produce craters and thousands of small fragments.

It is believe that the Indians in the region may have seen the fall since the location was called Campo del CIelo which translates to field from the sky or heaven.Offered here is an informative card of a historic meteorite that landed in Chaco, Argentina. The card comes within a soft plastic sleeve which in turn comes within a hard plastic sleeve. The meteorites fragments are attached to the front of the card in a small 1/2 inch square plastic bag for your viewing pleasure500mg, half a gram of meteorite particles from Campo del Cielo are included. You can learn more about Campo del Cielo here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campo_del_Cielo
